Inflation Forcing American Families To Choose Basic Necessities Over Summer Vacation
Road trips to beaches and state parks this summer are going to cost double for gas compared to last year, as JPMorgan predicts ‘prices could surge another 37% by August.’

As inflation’s effects ripple through the American economy, families are planning to cancel summer vacations due to rising costs of food and gas, according to the National Parents Union.
“Families across the country are facing a summer of misery,” the president of the National Parents Union, Keri Rodrigues, said.
Ms. Rodrigues’s comments came as NPU released a survey of 1,000 families with K-12 children from around America. It states that nearly 75 percent of them are worried about inflation.
The alarm raised by NPU coincides with record-high gas prices, as the average has surged to nearly $5 a gallon, according to AAA. The traditional American road trips to beaches and state parks this summer are going to cost double for gas compared to last year, as JPMorgan predicts “prices could surge another 37% by August, hitting a $6.20 per gallon national average.”
According to the NPU survey, 25 percent of parents said they would have to spend more hours working this summer to pay normal household bills. The NPU has put the blame squarely on President Biden, saying that “Democrats cannot claim to be the party of the working class unless they drop the finger-pointing and start prioritizing solutions”
The findings of the NPU were in line with the approval rating of Mr. Biden, with only 38 percent of parents giving Mr. Biden an “A” or “B.”
The NPU, based at Boston, says it is a nonpartisan advocacy group founded to advocate for change in classrooms across the nation.
